For cyclists, one of the highlight of the Oregon Coast is the many bridges – 11 to be exact. But there’s one bridge that distinguishes itself from the pack. That’s the lovely Cape Creek Bridge.
Located in Lane County, north of the city of Florence, you’ll find this bridge along U.S. 101. It’s positioned just south of Heceta Head Lighthouse – one of the most photographed structures on the Oregon Coast. The bridge is best admired on foot or by bike, although the highway runs under it.
The bridge was built in 1932, a mostly decorative crossing since the river was only knee-deep and didn’t see much traffic at the time. It was designed by famous Oregon Coast bridge engineer Conde McCullough. The two-tiered viaduct section of columns and arches were meant to evoke a Roman aqueduct, and today charms travelers.
Look for this bridge at milepost 178.35 on U.S. 101.
