Oregon Maritime Museum

The Oregon Maritime Museum (198 Southwest Naito Pkwy) is one of the unsung heroes of Portland’s diverse and interesting museum scene. Located at the North end of Tom McCall Waterfront Park (near Pine St.) in downtown Portland, the nautical museum is located on the sternwheeler Portland. You can take a 45 minute (minimum) tour on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays anytime from 11:00 am – 3:15 pm (the museum closes at 4:00 pm) to learn about how the boat operates, it’s fascinating history and that one time when they filmed Maverick with Jodie Foster and Mel Gibson aboard the vessel. The Portland is the last operating sternwheel steam towboat in the United States.

If you have ever wanted to see an engine order telegraph pulled like in Titanic, or view a real diver’s helmet like in Men of Honor, this is your big chance. Have a desire to see a sternwheel steam towboat's steering wheel? Want to see where a Captain sleeps and works? You can have that experience on board the Oregon Maritime Museum. The volunteer docents will impart their knowledge to you in a friendly, fun and well-versed manner. Don’t forget to ask about the library, kid’s corner and gift shop!
