The Larch Mountain Trail is a lovely circular route that will take 4-5 hours if you are walking at an easy pace. There is a well-worn trail along the whole route and you will be under the tree line most of the time, walking down through the floor of what was once a volcano. There are bathrooms and picnic tables at the midway point.
At Sherrard Point, at the top of Larch, you will be rewarded on a clear day, with stunning views of Mts. Rainier, St. Helens, Adams, Hood, Jefferson, and the Three Sisters.
The route is 7 miles long and the ascent is 1,560 feet. It will take 50 minutes to drive from Portland.
